Stearns Lodge is the RMC’s employee housing facility, in Randolph.
In the early 2000s the RMC set about solving a long-term challenge for the club– that of providing permanent housing for its trail crews and caretakers. Stearns Lodge was completed in March 2007, on land donated by RMC members Edith and Dan Tucker. The building was named after Anna B. Stearns, a long-time member of the RMC and the founder of the Anna B. Stearns Charitable Foundation, which donated a $100,000 challenge grant towards the project.
The building features kitchen facilities, laundry facilities, restrooms, showers, common areas for all employees, and also year-round private quarters for the Field Supervisor. Trail Crew members sleep outside in individual canvas tents around the building. Since 2020 the building has been solar-powered thanks to a fund-raising campaign among RMC members, community residents, and local and state-level foundations.
Stearns Lodge is conveniently located between Durand Road and U.S. Route 2. Multiple trailheads, the RMC workshop, and the Ravine House Pool are all within walking distance. Parking is available for RMC employees only. As it is the residence of our employees, Stearns Lodge is not open to the public.
