Fourth of July Tea

Come to the Tea to celebrate the start of the summer season! This is your opportunity to [meet longtime friends, new club members] and Randolph residents, and the RMC’s new and returning employees. You can enjoy refreshments, volunteer to lead a trip and buy RMC merchandise. Summer brings many people to Randolph and there’s lots to do, especially outdoors. Whether you’re interested in doing RMC work or having fun, you can meet people at the Tea to do it with.

Since the early 1930s the Fourth of July Tea has been held at an outdoor location along Randolph Hill Road, every year and always on the 4th itself. For forty years it took place on the lawn of the Mt. Crescent House, hosted by the Boothman family, the hotel’s owners. Some of the refreshments served by the Boothmans – especially the lemon sherbet – continue to appear at the Tea to this day. After moving to the adjacent Shop and Playhouse following the razing of the hotel in 1971, the Tea was relocated in 1984 to the historic barn at Sky Meadow, then owned by Bob and Libby Kenyon, who hosted for thirty years.

Today the Tea is hosted by year-rounders Mark and Kathleen Kelley, and they welcome you to join with RMC members, employees and Randolph residents every July as the summer season begins.
